Haaland's First-Half Opener and Mahrez's Late Penalty Condemn Struggling Spurs to Defeat
Manchester City have taken a significant step towards the Premier League title with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, courtesy of goals from Erling Haaland and Riyad Mahrez.
With the win, City have returned to the top of the table, two points ahead of Arsenal, who have a game in hand. Tottenham, meanwhile, have now lost their last three Premier League matches and sit eighth in the standings.
Haaland opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, tapping home from close range after a scramble in the Tottenham box. The Norwegian striker has now scored 27 goals in all competitions this season, including 22 in the Premier League.
Mahrez sealed the victory for City in the 90th minute with a coolly taken penalty after Julian Alvarez was brought down by Cristian Romero in the box. It was Mahrez's eighth goal of the season and his fourth in the Premier League.
The win will be a major boost to City's title hopes, while Tottenham's recent struggles will be a concern to manager Antonio Conte.
