This is the third largest earthquake in the world since 1900 and is the largest since the 1964 Alaska earthquake. In total, at least 227,898 people were killed.
Government estimates put the number at a staggering 316,000 dead. A magnitude 7.9 quake strikes eastern Sichuan in China.
